Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)?

A Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) is registered with the British Columbia Association of Clinical counsellors and has a minimum of a Masters degree from an accredited university and has met specific training criteria that provide assurance of experience, qualifications and stringent professional and ethical standards.

As an RCC my role is to provide you with counselling and advocacy-based support through talk therapy.

Do I need a referral to start counselling?

A referral is not required! You are welcome to reach out and start counselling at any time.

How do you currently offer counselling?

I am currently offering online virtual counselling sessions conducted using a secure online telehealth platform. I also offer phone counselling sessions and in-person, outdoor walk & talk therapy sessions.

Does Counselling work when it’s online or over the phone?

Yes! During these challenging times counselling can take place effectively and safely on online platforms and/or over the phone.

What are your rates? Is there a sliding scale option available?

Rates are discussed during our initial consultation. Some sliding scale options may be available for those who qualify. If the cost of counselling is a concern, please ask about options during our consultation.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes, I offer a free 20-minute consultation either by phone or online in which we can introduce ourselves and briefly discuss your reason for seeking counselling. These calls are helpful for us to see if we would be a good fit to work together, what your needs are, and how I may be able to help. Consultation calls are also an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

This is my first time seeing a Counsellor, what can I expect?

Starting counselling can feel daunting and I commend you on taking this first step! First, I offer an initial complimentary consultation for us to have a brief introductory meeting where you can ask questions and determine if we are a good fit.

If you decide to move forward with counselling with me, we will book a first session where we will discuss your current concerns, your goals and what you would like to work on. I will tailor my approach and future sessions to you and your needs which can always be adjusted as required.

How long are Counselling sessions?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes in duration and sometimes longer sessions may be useful. We can discuss session duration together to determine what will work best for you.

How many sessions and how often do I need to come to Counselling for it to work?

This is something we can discuss during our first few sessions together but there really is no set timeframe and the choice is always up to you on when you start, attend, and end therapy. Ultimately, it will depend on your goals, your time and commitment, and the reason you chose to seek counselling.

Is Counselling covered under insurance?

At this time, BC MSP does not cover clinical counselling; however, many extended health benefit providers do. Check with your plan to see if counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) is covered. I do not offer direct billing, but I will provide receipts for you to submit to your provider for reimbursement.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, kindly provide at least 24 hours notice by phone or email. If you are unable to provide 24 hours notice, you will be charged the full cost of the appointment.
